Damp patch on bedroom ceiling

Old Kent Road, London SE1
This was a case of a damp patch appearing on the bedroom ceiling every time it rained.

At least three operatives from other organisations attended the property. They washed the mould but were unable to identify the root cause of the issue.

Mould

When we attended, we cleaned the mould and carried out a thorough inspection of the loft. During our investigation, we discovered that a satellite cable attached to the dish outside had been drilled through a roof tile to provide access to the apparatus internally. At some point, the cable had been cut, leaving a hole in the tile that compromised the roof’s watertightness. Rainwater entered the loft through this hole, travelled down the cable, and dripped off the cut end, soaking the insulation below until it became saturated. This caused damage to the bedroom ceiling.

Mould

Repairing the issue was a costly process. It involved replacing the roof tile and felt, removing the cable, patch-repairing the ceiling and plaster, and redecorating. However, the issue was successfully resolved.
